FAQs
What is GathrBot?
GathrBot is a social coordination service intended to let users put their social lives on autopilot.
We are currently in MVP phase and would like to add more features and more polish as we mature.
How Does GathrBot Work?
Creating a Group:
Create a group by filling out a quick survey with the sort of information you’d provide for a recurring calendar invite–who, where, when, and how often.
Gatherings:
Once your group is created, GathrBot invites the group to gatherings at the time and cadence you selected.
When a gathering is approaching, all group members will get an email like this:
If a critical mass of people say yes (e.g. at least 3 for a group of 5), GathrBot will announce the gathering is on. Otherwise, GathrBot lets relevant members know that the gathering isn’t occurring.
GathrSpots:
GathrBot initially asks you to input a single gathering location (or “GathrSpot”) from Google maps or pick one of GathrBot’s collections of favorite GathrSpots. After the group is created, you and other group members can add additional GathrSpots and GathrSpot collections.
I’ll Go if They Go
“I’ll go if they go” is intended to save you the hassle of coordinating with your friends on the side to see if they’re attending a gathering. GathrBot’s goal is to let you manage your social calendar in one touch.
If you only want to attend a gathering only if someone else is also going, select “I’ll go if they go” and enter relevant group members’ names or email addresses. Once the response deadline has passed, GathrBot will let you know that the gathering is on if and only if:
a critical mass of group members said yes
AND
at least one person said yes from your “I’ll go if they go” list
Can I Change My Selections After I Create a Gathr Group?
Yes, other than the group name, everything can be changed at any point. Once a group is created, it is collectively owned by all group members and any member can:
Add or remove members
Add or remove individual GathrSpots
In select regions, add or remove one of GathrBot’s lists of favorite GathrSpots
Change the time or date of an individual event
Change the timing or frequency of the group’s gatherings
End the group
Can I Change my RSVP?
Yes, as long as it’s before the response deadline, simply respond again. Once the response deadline has passed, your response cannot be changed.
How Many Members Need to Say Yes?
For groups of 2, 2
For groups of 3-7, at least 3
For groups of 8-10, at least 4
For groups of 11-15, at least 5
For groups of 16-20, at least 6
For groups of >20, at least 8
What Makes a Good GathrSpot?
When chosing GathrSpots, make sure to pick places that are open during the time you’ll be meeting and use your best judgment about which venues will be able to accommodate your group’s size without a reservation. Unfortunately, GathrBot can’t currently make reservations.
Please don’t put in your home address or GathrBot could end up sending people to your home for gatherings you can’t attend.
Why Isn't My Information Showing up on the View/Modify Groups Section of the Site?
Because GathrBot is in an MVP state, new information may take a day or so to show up onsite.
Where Can I Find my Participant ID or the Groups’s Membership Code?
At the bottom of your GathrBot emails for that group.
Where Can I Find the Gathering ID for a Gathering?
For smaller groups you can find this ID in the gathering announcement email (“Your Gathering is On!”) or the day-of gathering reminder email. For larger groups, you can find the ID in the day-of gathering reminder email.
Can I Bring Friends to Gatherings that Aren’t in the Group?
We say go for it, but use your best judgment on what makes sense for your particular group and GathrSpot.
